Arts

  Our Visual Arts Program

P.S. 247 is fortunate to have a very active Visual Arts Program at the school. Our talented Art teacher is helping to develop our student’s aesthetic ability, imagination, creativity, and artistic ability.

This year our K-5 students and teachers integrated the arts with several core curriculum subjects. As well as implementing the Visual Arts curriculum and standards stated in the New York City Blueprint for the Visual Arts.
Every June, the halls of the school turn into a museum exhibiting a retrospective showing of student’s artwork from the school year.
Our Art and Music teachers, in cooperation with each participating classroom teacher, has incorporated literacy, social studies, language arts, music and the arts into a wonderful assembly program, culminating with a grade performance by all participating classes.

    Electronic Music

P.S. 247 has been able to develop a music technology program. Our state of the art music room is a Music Technology Lab made up of 17 computers MIDI connected to 17 electronic keyboard workstations.
This music technology program evolved from a proposal written by Mr. Don Muro, a world famous composer, musician and educator in electronic music.
P.S. 247’s Electronic Music Program uses technology as a tool to aid in music education. All of our Grade 3-5 students have weekly instruction in basic music fundamentals in our Music Technology Lab.

Through the aid of several music software programs students are learning basic music theory, composing techniques, improvisation, instruments of the orchestra and basic ear training.
In addition, basic computer skills are being taught and developed. Music and technology are combined to enhance basic computer skills and music education. This program uses technology to enhance music education. It is music education for the 21st century.
