Special Education Services
Special education is designed to provide education to children with conditions that affect their progress in learning. All children have a right to an education that meets their needs. A wide range of conditions may affect a child’s ability to learn. When a child is having difficulty in school, our Pupil Intervention Team tries to figure out how to best support the child in the general education classroom. There are many adaptations and supports that are offered to the child. If these adaptations and supports are not successful, a formal referral and evaluation process is initiated. The School Assessment Team handles this process.
Once a child is classified as having a particular need, an appropriate program is selected to support the child’s educational needs. Plans to meet the child’s specific educational needs must be made. This plan is called an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). The IEP outlines goals and services that will help the student meet these goals. It is important for parents to be involved and consulted in every decision being made. For more information on Special Education please contact the parent coordinator.
The student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) specifies the instruction that is necessary to assist the child to achieve academic success and progress. The IEP, which is written by the School Psychologist or Special Education Provider, is designed to build upon a student’s academic areas of strength as a means to strengthen areas of weakness.

Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT Class) – The Collaborative Team Teaching Class is a General Education classroom program. The CTT Class is taught by both a general education teacher and a special education teacher. Students with an IEP within the CTT class will receive instruction from both the general education and special education teacher. The class instruction is then modified to meet and assist each student within the class to achieve academic success and progress.
Self Contained Class – The Self-contained Class is a smaller class sizeof no larger than 12 students. In the self-contained classroom, the students’ instruction is taught by a special education teacher. The special education teacher in this classroom is assisted by a paraprofessional.
