Physical education in schools is one of the most important ways to help fight childhood obesity. The goal of GYM class is to expose children to activities they might not otherwise experience and help develop their skills in a non-threatening way. In our Gym class we assess children’s physical fitness using Fitness Gram and we play different sports such as Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Kickball, as well as other team activities.
The BOKS is an early morning program that we started this fall. The program prepares children for a day of learning. It’s an important step in helping children gain appreciation of the benefits of exercising and healthy choices that will last a lifetime. Our typical BOKS class runs for 60 minutes long and children enjoy fun warm-up games or movement drills. Then, they get to running activities, relay races, obstacle courses, and strength movements. Finally, they get to fun games together with our cool down and a BOKS Bit, a nutrition component of the program.
The program will run every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning from 7:15 am to 8:15 am for 4th and 5th graders only. It will start on February 2nd, 2015 and will end on May 15th, 2015.
Is a comprehensive educational, reporting and promotional tool used to assess physical fitness and physical activity levels for children.
Fitness Gram test items were selected to assess important aspects of a student’s health related fitness, not skill or agility.
