Groundbreaking of the outdoor kitchen will begin in Spring 2012. 

Edible Schoolyard Garden

Public School 216 is the first Edible Schoolyard affiliate in New York City.

The Edible SchoolYard:
  • A 20,000 square foot organic garden planted with fruits and vegetables.
  • A kitchen classroom in the garden with full time garden staff to teach
    the children about soil, gardening, nutrition, and the environment.
    Lessons will be related to standards-based classroom instruction in
    literacy, science, math, social studies, and the arts.

A freestanding kitchen classroom with innovative design elements will be constructed.
The students will be involved in getting food from the ground to the
table preparing, cooking, and eating what they have grown.
A moveable heated greenhouse will be provided, so that children
can plan, harvest, and prepare food during the cold months.

April 6-13th  Spring Recess
April 17-19th ELA Exams (Grade 3-5)
April 25-27th Math Exams (Grade3-5)
May 28th: Memorial Day (school closed)

June 7th : Closed for Staff Development
June 27th: Last Day of School for Students. 
                  All students must attend!
