Dear Mark Twain Community:
My name is Karen Ditolla and as of September 2012, I became the newly appointed Principal of Mark Twain Intermediate School for the Gifted and Talented. It is truly an honor to serve in this capacity. I consider parents and community members to be pivotal partners in the education process. I hope to develop a collaborative working relationship with all the key stakeholders involved in the journey of educating children. To that end, I would like to share with you a little bit about my own personal and professional journey.
I am a product of the public school system. I attended elementary, intermediate and high school in New York City where I received a strong academic and well balanced education. The educators and mentors that I had throughout the journey are the individuals to whom I attribute my success. It is my hope that our children will be as inspired by the outstanding educators within our school, as I was, when I sat in their seat.
Throughout my career in education I had the opportunity to serve in various roles. I began my journey in the classroom teaching social studies. I then went on to serve as a Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal, District and Regional Administrator, and most recently, a Network Leader. My experience has afforded me with tremendous opportunities to establish relationships with central and school based staff and students, parents, and community partners across the city. I hope that I can further these relationships with you and your family and /or organization. After all, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
If you are a current or new student, I am so excited to meet you in September! Mark Twain is an excellent school that will certainly challenge you day by day, and prepare you for the bright future that awaits you. If you are a prospective student, I assure you, that Mark Twain is an extremely dynamic and competitive school and we welcome your inquires!
I look forward to working with you and the Mark Twain community! In honor of our beloved Principal Emeritus, Carol Moore “Let’s Go Team!”
