Hello Parents,
My name is Christine Cosares. I am the PTA President at I.S. 281. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you in advance for supporting the PTA. It is a job that requires little time and a lot of heart! Working together with the parents and staff, we are looking forward to a wonderful school year!
The PTA is here to raise money for things our children might need throughout the year. Anyone who has a child in the school is already a part of the PTA. Any donation is needed and appreciated.
Please note that we plan to have quick and informative meetings every month. If at any time you have to speak to someone on the PTA, send a note with your child. They can bring it to Mrs. Fariello, the Parent Coordinator, and she will make sure we get it. You can also stop in and someone will help you.
Our first PTA meeting is Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 7:00 pm. Come and meet the PTA Executive Board. Look for letters that are sent home with your children or check our website, www.is281.com. When the PTA receives information, we will pass it on to the parents.
Thank you and have a great school year!
Christine Cosares
PTA President**We would like to thank all the parents and staff that came to our Welcome Breakfast. A special thank you to Bagel Bazaar located at 2208 86th Street for donating mini bagels for our breakfast. We appreciate your continued support!**

School Meals Click here for the School Meals Flyer Did you know that New York City school students can now apply for School Meals online? Parents can go to ACCESS NYC, New York City’s online public screening tool, and apply electronically for free or reduced-price school meals for their children. The ACCESS NYC website at www.nyc.gov/accessnyc walks parents through simple questions to complete and submit the School Meals Online Application. Please note that the paper process has not changed. Families that would like to use the paper application should complete the form and submit it to their child’s school.
With the School Meals Online Application, parents can submit one application for all of their children at one time, even if they attend different schools. Since the online application is available for all schools participating in the School Food Lunch program, staff should be aware of the online process through ACCESS NYC. Once a parent submits the application online they do not need to bring any paper forms into the school. The online application will be processed automatically and ATS will be updated with the child’s eligibility.
The ACCESS NYC Web site is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Haitian Creole, and Arabic and parents can submit the online application in any of these languages. If parents would like to apply in Bengali, French, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Hindi, Polish or Urdu, they should be directed to use the paper application in those languages. If you are asked a question regarding ACCESS NYC that you are unable to answer, ask parents to click the “Contact Us” link at the top of any page in ACCESS NYC, or to dial 311 and ask for “ACCESS NYC.”
ACCESS NYC is free, simple to use, and anonymous. All staff is encouraged to share information about ACCESS NYC with clients, family, and friends living in New York City so that they can also enjoy the benefits of this system.
