6th Grade News & Info
Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th Grade Students,

It is my intention to keep all of my student's parents informed and up to date regarding "the 6th Grade experience".  I will update this section of "IS281.com" periodically to make sure that news and information is current. So here goes...

(1) Academic Alerts:  These documents have been distributed in order to help inform parents about concerns that teachers have at approximately the mid-point of the quarter (this may be in addition to phone calls...).  Parents should not receive 'surprises' on report cards.  If you received an 'academic alert'  please contact your child's teacher for more information on how you can help at home. We use this tool in each marking period. Academic Alerts for the 3rd marking period were distributed on March 3rd.

(2) Pennies For Patients Update:  IS 281 is not called "The Caring School" for nothing.  Our 6th grade students raised/donated $2,265.00 during the three week charity drive.  Our entire school raised a total of $5,503.34.  All donations go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  I/we couldn't be prouder of our students!!!

(3) Our trip to Liberty Science Center was a big hit!  All had a great time and all students conducted themselves as expected.  The entire staff at LSC was so impressed with our students.  Thank you so much to the parent chaperones who accompanied us.  We could not have done this trip without you!

(4) Our Bring In The Spring Dance was a great success.  Students conducted themselves superbly, had A LOT of fun and once again made us proud.

(5) Our next 6th grade trip is scheduled for Wednesday April 30th.  Students in good academic and behavioral standing in the 3rd marking period will be invited to go to Funtime America in Cliffwood, New Jersey.  The cost of the trip will be $25.00.  Included will be round trip transportation, 30 arcade/game tokens, unlimited carnival rides, one laser tag battle OR one motion simulator trip, access to FTA's Science Museum and Nature Center, and one slice of pizza with soda. Consent slips will be distributed on April 10th.  Consent slips and $ will be collected in AM homeroom only.  The last date to pay will be April 18th (no exceptions).  We can only take the first 210 students who pay.

(6) Stay tuned for information about 6th Grade Family Night at Shea StadiumWe are looking into a night trip to watch the NY Mets vs. The Washington Nationals in mid May. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles...will be invited.

The "class of 2010" is a great group.  Please stay involved, these three years go by so fast.
