Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Welcome to Joseph B. Cavallaro, I.S. 281! These next three years will be a time of meaningful learning experiences – both academic and social – for you!
is281.com is a perfect tool for keeping you abreast of a variety of information that you will need throughout this school year. I will update the 6th grade section of this site periodically so that the information remains current.
1. Academic Alerts are being distributed the week of October 6, 2008: These are progress reports that are distributed at the mid-point of each marking period, most likely in addition to phone calls from your child’s teacher(s). Parents/Guardians must sign and return these academic alerts, and are encouraged to contact each teacher to discuss the difficulties your child is having and what you can do to help your child.
2. Extended Day Program for academic support: This program is for those students who are struggling with their academic work. It meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:10 – 3:00. Permission slips are available in room 424.
3. Extended Day Arts Program: Classes are available in Fine Arts, Dance, Media, and Journalism. This program meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:10 – 3:00. Permission slips are available in room 424.
Transportation home is not available.
4. 6th Grade Demerit System: We have instituted a demerit system to help maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for our students. A letter explaining this system was distributed during the first week of school, and required a parent/guardian signature on the tear-off at the bottom of the letter. If you have not already done so, please sign and return this tear-off (extra copies of this letter are available in room 424).
5. Dress Code: just a reminder that students must be in uniform (plain white shirt and black pants/skirt) every day. A letter will be sent home with your child notifying you of a dress-down day in advance of that special day.
6. Harvest Dance: Save the date!!...
November 24th from 2:30 – 4:30…
