Special Education
It is the philosophy of PS 197, to provide a fully integrated program to our special education population in order for them to get the maximum amount of services in the least restrictive environment
Ø Our Special Education Program services approximately 100 children.
Ø We have full time Integrated Co-Teaching classes on every grade K-5. We also have five self-contained classes servicing our children from kindergarten through grade five. We offer SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) to several students.
Ø Our self-contained children are mainstreamed in mathematics, reading, ESL, chorus and all other appropriate academic and recreational areas.
Ø Special Education children are serviced through all of the academic intervention programs that are available to our general education students.
Ø Our students are also mandated for many related services. We have two full time Occupational Therapists, a Physical Therapist, three Speech teachers, a Hearing teacher and a Guidance Counselor.
Ø We offer Adaptive Physical Education to those children that require it.
Ø We have crisis, health, language and classroom paraprofessionals.
