1st grade Cardinals

Cardinals in the Snow

The Northern Cardinal lives in the eastern United States and Canada, as well as in Mexico. The male has bright red feathers, while the female cardinal is brown. Both have a black “mask”, which is the black shape around their beaks. Cardinals don’t migrate when the weather gets cold, and are often seen in the snow.

Students in first grade learned to draw the cardinal with simple shapes—circles, ovals, and a square for the face.  These beautiful pictures were created with crayon for the branches, oil pastel for the birds, and white tempera paint for the snow.
