Important Information Regarding Rezoning
Welcome back to the 2013-2014 school year! Hopefully, you have all had a wonderful summer. You will be getting many notices in the next few days please continue to monitor them. Please remember to log on to our website often and fill out the blue emergency cards quickly and clearly so we can update all parent information.
Lunch forms will be sent home, please return them ASAP. Please tell your children not to eat hot lunch if you want them to eat the lunch you bring from home. If they eat our hot lunch you will be charged. The good news is as of Oct., 2013, there will be only two types of lunch Full for a $1.75 (25 cent increase after 10 years) and Free which will include free & reduced lunch forms.
Extended Day will start on September 30th for all students that are mandated. Extended day dismissal is at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday dismissal is at 2:20 p.m.
Maspeth Town Hall is full but they are still accepting parent applications that wish to pay for the service at Maspeth Town Hall.
The school opening went smoothly this year, considering that we have over 1,500 students. Soon we will begin “stepping up” for grades 1, 2, and Kindergarten. Please see the school calendar on the back and look at the attached sheets for Arrival & Dismissal.
Please do not park in bus areas and please label all your students belongings with name and class so we can return them if lost. If students cannot carry the supplies they are bringing in, you must bring them (labeled with name and class) to security and they will be delivered to your child’s class.
Please remember we are a uniform school for all grades. Unless your child has an exemption on file all students are expected to wear uniforms. You can opt out of the uniform up to October 15th after that date; the assumption is your child will be in uniform.
A large part of P.S. 229’s success is because of the support we receive from parents. Students come into school on time, well prepared and parents are always available. Our job would be impossible without your strong support and help. Our supportive PTA and School Leadership Team are also major partners in our achievements.
Thank you for your support, patience and cooperation.
2013 Blood Drive
P.S. 229 Parents and staff, once again, donated over 50 pints of blood on our annual blood drive. There will be many grateful recipients of this much needed blood.
