                                                    Reading Curriculum

At P.S. 242 we use the Teachers' College Reading and Writing Process in all grades.

    • It is a K-3 literacy education model that uses the workshop model to teach literacy in individual classrooms.
    • Administrators, teachers and students participate in collaborative groups in which they explore literacy issues through reading, writing and discussion.
    • Its main focus is to foster a love for reading within our students.
    • It differentiates and personalizes instruction to accommodate the learning needs of all students.

                                                Writing Curriculum

    • Writer's workshop is an interdisciplinary writing technique which builds students' fluency in writing through continuous, repeated exposure to the process of writing.
    • The format includes story planning, revision, conference with the teacher.
