Athletics & Fitness

The mission of the Public Schools Athletic League is to provide opportunities for educating students in physical fitness, character development and socialization skills through an athletic program that fosters teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
The goal of the C.H.A.M.P.S. Middle School Sports & Fitness program is to improve student fitness levels and overall health by increasing opportunities for children to engage in physical activity, regardless of athletic ability. The program promotes health-related fitness through a mix of several after-school and before-school activities including traditional sports, non-traditional sports, and fitness activities. The ultimate goal is for students to grow to be C.H.A.M.P.S. — Cooperative, Healthy, Active, Motivated, Positive Students — for life.

Physical Education

Joseph Seifers

This year the Physical Education program was very energetic! We again made a commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. Activities that the children participated in during the P.E. period included soccer, hockey, kickball, bowling, and volleyball.  Both of these increase the ability to focus and help in relaxation. Children in the early grades were also involved in parachute play and scooter movement. The main thrusts of the program were to encourage involvement and sportmanship while on the playing field. Winning has to do with respect as much as a score.

Our exercise component included movement in the early grade, low impact aerobics for the middle grades and step aerobics for the upper grades. Children were encouraged to exercise at home as well.

Physical Education at PS 203 is treated as an integral part of the child's education. It is this attitude that allows children to start on the road to physical well being.
