Physical Education is a required class which you must take and pass for seven terms. You are required to take and pass one term of Health. Health is averaged into your grades and you will receive one credit upon successful completion. Upon successful completion of Physical Education you will have two credits.
The “Fitness Gram” is a citywide test that all of our students are required to take. It consists of curl-ups, push-ups, sit and reach, trunk lift and Pacer test. These scores along with the students height and weight are use to determine if the student is in the Healthy Fitness Zone. Each student will then receive a report card stating were they are in regard to each test.
Freshman Sports class is for all ninth graders. This class explores Fitness which includes the “Fitness Gram”. It also does the beginning skills for Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Team Handball, Basketball, Softball and Tennis.
We offer the following classes after completion of the Freshman Year:
Aerobics: These classes are dedicated to offering programs that teach concepts and theories of health and fitness. Our students can enjoy a variety of exercises that will have them looking and feeling great. The units in this class include pilates, yoga, step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, exercise balls, circuit training, and jump rope are just to name a few. Through these e units our students will be able to design their own programs for life long fitness.
Leaders: This class is our department’ honor class for which the students are nominated from their Physical education class during their freshman year. They have to have a grade of 85 in Physical Education as well as maintain an overall average of 75 to remain in the class. For more information click on the link.
Weight Training: In Weight Training we hope to improve the size and strength of all the muscles in the human body. Through the development of these muscles we hope that students will reduce injuries through the muscle strength gained in Weight Training. Weight Training is also a great way to improve and maintain cardiovascular fitness.
Team Sports: In Team Sports we hope to teach a variety of sports that are played in groups. We hope to develop and improve skills so our students can participate in sports throughout their entire life. Through this class we wish to instill in our students the importance of physical activity and lifetime fitness.
