Career Awareness at Martin Van Buren High School was a great success- a great success for MVB students a great success for presenters and Alumni.
On April 29, 2009 we had sixty-five presenters who volunteered their time and expertise to speak to our students about career areas and the important connections between high school academic success and future success in a chosen career. The day after our students and teachers were still talking about the presentation. Many students identified personally with what the various presenters spoke about. Our student ushers, enrolled in our specialized Business Education Program, raved about the experiences they had in meeting all our guest speakers, and of the connections that blossomed because of that.
We are determined to maintain Career Awareness with our Martin Van Buren HS students. It is our hope that we can create both formal and informal partnerships with companies and organizations, so that students can continue their exploration of careers and make well-planned transitions to adulthood. We are eager to establish internship programs, mentoring situations and advisory relationships.
We are particularly proud of our eight-day Career Awareness Program, whose culminating activity would not have been possible without the presenter’s generous participation.
On behalf of our 3,000 Martin Van Buren HS students and our staff we would like to say thank you to the presenters and Alumni for making Career Awareness a great success.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Shevell
