Dear Parents and Students:
Safety always comes first at Martin Van Buren High School. It is for this reason that we are urgently requesting that cell phones and IPod’s be left at home. The theft of cell phones and IPod’s have become a city wide epidemic. Students are being approached on their way home from school in an attempt to steal their cell phones and IPod’s. In some cases students have been assaulted. Most recently it has been reported that adults have also become victims of cell phone theft. We are committed and determined to insuring student safety and protecting our students.
Chancellor’s Regulation A 412 Section V clearly prohibits any electronic communication device in school. In addition, it is a violation of Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures (The Discipline Code) ---B05.
Our policy at Martin Van Buren High School regarding electronic devices is simple:
CELL PHONES, I-PODS, AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN SCHOOL.
--- Any cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated if seen.
--- Cell phones, I-Pod’s, and ALL electronic devices will be returned only to parents on the first MONDAY of every month between the hours of 11:00 AM - 3:00PM. in room 157.
Thank you for helping us protect our students. Remind your children to leave their cell phones and all other electronic devices at home.
