FAMILY READING NIGHT
In keeping with our belief that literacy is a "family affair" -- our three graded Family Reading Nights, coordinated by our Librarian Mrs. Patricia Shomo, offer all of our students the opportunity to share an evening of wonderful stories and books with teachers, parents and siblings.
Children return to school in bedtime attire and gather with classmates and families in designated locations. Our teachers volunteer their time to tell stories and model effective ways to read aloud.
Refreshments are served and every child takes home a new book!
Queens Public Library representatives are available to take library card applications.
We are very proud of the amazing response to these events which have drawn hundreds of people. We expect to continue this program which strengthens our school-family partnership and encourages families to experience the joy of reading together.
CHORUS
The PS64 Chorus has been in existence for twelve years. The forty to fifty selected children meet during school music periods each week to practice for fall and winter concerts. These talented students, led by Mrs. Sparber, always bring joy to the hearts of their audiences.
PEER MEDIATION
Through our peer mediation program, facilitated by Ms. Chin, we instill in our children that violence is an unacceptable method of problem solving. Students in grade four through six are taught the conflict resolution skills necessary to become proud and skillful mediators, who help their fellow students solve their problems peacefully.
