After School Academic Program
Mr. Krieger teaches a 6
th grade class from Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3-4pm. The class focuses mostly on Test-Prep in Math and ELA.
Buddy Program
The 6th grade honors class meets with Ms. Martin’s 2nd grade class once per week to complete special Social Studies projects. In addition, the students write to their buddies in their journals on a regular basis. The team completed a research project on the history of Far Rockaway.
E-Con Bowl
Mr. Krieger selected a team of 20 students from about 65 applicants based on GPA and Honor Roll status. The team meets regularly to practice for a presentation in which they compete against other schools. The topic that the presentation is based around this year is on government involvement in the lives of the citizen. The team has completed rigorous research on topics such as the New Deal and Housing.
The Stock Market Game
Mr. Krieger am using this program to teach students about the Stock Market. The students learn about broker’s fees, currency values, cash balances, and liquidation to name just a few aspects. Each student learns responsibility while managing a mock $100,000 portfolio. For more information about this program, go to www.stockmarketgame.org.
Chelsea Bank
All 6th grade classes participate in Chelsea Bank which is a Classroom Inc. program that teaches student’s practical skills such as decision making and how to use banking terms. The program requires the students to work in teams and use math, writing and computer skills.
