Ballroom Dancing
Through the guidance of Miss Fini and the rest of the fifth grade teachers, the 5th graders were able to participate in a program called “Dancing Classrooms.” This introduced them to some basic steps of Ballroom Dancing.
During this 10-week program, the students learned how to dance the Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango, Swing, and the Merangue. At the end of the 10 weeks, 12 students out of the 100 students in the grade were selected on their skills to represent PS/MS 105 in competitions against other schools in the five boroughs.
The first round of competitions was the Quarterly Finals and our students received a Gold ribbon. That qualified us for the next round, which was the Semi Finals. Once again our students received a gold ribbon. This put us through to the Semester Finals. This time around the students received a silver award for their hard work, and received second place.
The students and the adults in attendance were so proud of all of their accomplishments. This program gave the students motivation, determination, and whole new outlook on Ballroom Dancing. Some students might forget what they learned, but most students still talk about their experiences and what a GREAT program it was.
There is a student in the 5th grade that continued his dream of becoming a dancer and maybe one day appear on Dancing With The Stars!
