After School Science Club

This school year, 2007-2008, the science cluster teacher, Ms. Masullo, initiated a “School Beautification Program” to implement as the theme for our After-School Science Club, involving twelve bright, creative and very talented 4th grade boys and girls.

Upon having evaluated the grounds of our school, the students and Ms. Masullo decided that for their first project, they would like to design and build birdhouses.

Our Science Club students wrote individual letters to Home Depot in Valley Stream asking for donations of “scrap wood.” Ms. Masullo brought the letters to the store and they kindly donated a trunk load of scrap wood.

The students have worked diligently for months on this project and now the final products are ready for hanging outdoors. Our custodian, Andrew, has been most cooperative and instrumental to assure us that the students’ “works of art” will be hung properly and safely.

Our next project will begin ASAP to prepare for planting beautiful flowers in the spring, on our school grounds.

Home Depot, once again, will be donating railroad ties so we can build flower boxes around the trees in the front of our school.
