CELL PHONES
In this day and age, we understand a parents need for their child to have a cell phone. However, they are prohibited in all NYC Public Schools, and will be confiscated if they are on, misused or cause disruption. If your child needs to make a phone call during the course of the school day, he/she is to ask for a pass to the Guidance Counselor to use the phone there. Any cell phone that has been confiscated will require the parent to come to the school to get it back.
CODE OF BEHAVIOR
Students,as well as their parents are to review the Goddard Code of Behavior at thebeginning of the school year. This code has been developed to ensure that each student has the opportunity to learn and grow with clear expectations and limits in an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect.
The Code of Conduct must be signed and returned to the school by the student and the parent/guardian.
Please take special note:
Chronic misbehavior can and may result in exclusionfrom major school functions, which may include school dances, trips, seniortrip, and the prom.
LEAVING THE BUILDING
The school is legally responsible for each student from the time they arrive, until the time they are dismissed.
If the child is ill, or becomes ill during the school day, they are to request a pass to the nurse’s office, where the parent or emergency contact person can be reached. Should the parent orcontact person come to the school to take out the child, they must “sign out”the child in the Main Office. Be advised that only persons listed on the emergency contact card may sign out achild, and must present the office staff photo ID as proof of their identity. The safety of the child is most important. We would never want a child to beput into the hands of a potentially dangerous person.
LOST AND FOUND
We have a designated box in the cafeteria for found items. Students who have lost items should check with the cafeteria supervisor. Items of great value such as prescription eyeglasses, rings, jewelry should be brought to the Main Office. Please note that we have received a number of costly items which were found and yet never claimed.
CHEWING GUM
Gum chewing is NOT allowed. Careless disposal of gum and candy in drinking fountains, in or on furniture, and on floors present sanitation and cleaning problems.
RESPECT
The school expects students to become citizens who are ready and willing to assume their share of responsibility for the good of the entire community. We use the concepts of respect and responsibility as the guiding principles for setting standards of behavior. We expect that each individual will behave with:
