Promotional Criteria grades 6-7-8
Students will be promoted to the next grade in sequence upon completion of the following requirements:
Promotion to Grade 7:
All students are to required to have the following in order to get promoted to grade 7:
- A minimum score of 2 on the NY State ELA and Math exams
- Passing grade of 65 in all core subjects (Math, Sci, ELA, SS)
Promotion to Grade 8:
All students are to required to have the following in order to get promoted to grade 8:
- A minimum score of 2 on the NY State ELA and Math exams
- Passing grade of 65 in all core subjects (Math, Sci, ELA, SS)
Promotion to High School:
All students are to required to have the following in order to receive a diploma and continue to high school:
- A minimum score of 2 on the NY State ELA and Math exams
- Passing grade of 65 in all core subjects (Math, Sci, ELA, SS)
- Completion of SS and Science exit project
English Language Learners will be held to promotional standards based on number
of years in NYC public schools
- 1st year ELLs and SIFEs must pass core subjects
- 2nd and 3rd year ELLs must:
- Score at a level 2 in Math and make expected gains in ELA, and
- Pass core subjects
- 4th year ELLs will be held to the same standards as English proficient students
Special Education students will be held to the promotion standards stated in their
IEPs modified or not
- Students whose IEPs do not specify modified promotion criteria will be held
to the same promotion policy as General Education students
Summer school must be attended by those students who do not meet these requirements. Upon completion of the requirements in summer school and passing the reading and or math exam, promotion is considered and subsequently granted.
