Mr. Goodman with the 2010 Scholars' Academy Boys Middle School basketball team
In a competitive match, The Scholars Academy Boys Middle School Basketball team defeated M.S. 105 to claim the Peninsula championship. The Scholars Seawolves finished with an undefeated record of 9-0, lead by eighth grader C.J. Davis. The Peninsula league, in its fifth season, also includes volleyball, basketball, and wrestling.
M.S. 105 came into the championship game with a 7-1 record looking to topple the undefeated Seawolves; but the Seawolves dug in on defense and went into halftime with a lead. Scholars’ Academy pulled away in the second half, thanks to Michael Buckley’s sharp shooting and tenacious rebounding by Adam Cruz and James Thompson. The Seawolves defense, lead by point guard Pat Cashin and Andre Olatunbosun, limited the potent M.S. 105 Sharks offense, which helped seal the deal. M.S. 105 stayed close towards the end by outscoring Scholars’ in the fourth quarter. Coach Drew Goodman, Assistant Principal at Scholars summarized the season, “I think the best part of the season was that the players enjoyed coming to practice and saw the results of their hard work.” ______________________________________________________

The Scholars’ Academy Wrestling Team had its second win of the season against Middle School 225 last Friday by a team score of 33-30. Tommy Quinn, Guy Barfield, Yarden Flatow, Vikash Simaroo and Tyrone Irving all scored pins for the Seawolves. M.S. 225, led by Paris Moses, Sequan Butts and William Escobar, all showed excellent competitive spirit.
