Morning/newspaper write up for March 4, 2009 game vs. Flushing International High School
The Scholars’ Academy Varsity Boys basketball team continued their inaugural season on March 4, 2009 as they took on Flushing International High School
Behind the strong efforts of Henry Moers, Liam Reen, and a strong team defensive effort, the Scholars’ Academy Seawolves won their first official game. They improved to 1-1 as they defeated Flushing International High school 48-25. During the 1st quarter, the Seawolves jumped out to a 16 – 2 advantage, led by Henry Moers who contributed 8 points in the first quarter and 10 total for the game. Liam Reen, who was the leading scorer for the second straight game, contributed 12 points. Azad Yusef also contributed by playing an outstanding aggressive style of defense as he created easy points off of turnovers. The Scholars’ Academy defense was opportunistic and did an outstanding job of taking away easy shots.
The Scholars’ Academy Seawolves will look to finish their inaugural season on a strong note as they have two more home games on March 18 and March 25th at the Scholars’ Academy gymnasium at 4:30. All are welcomed to attend as the Scholars’ Academy continues to strive to embrace the community of the Rockaway Peninsula.
