1. Review with your child his/her program and report.2. Ask your child if there is anything that he/she would like you to discuss with the teacher.3. Write down everything that you want to talk about at the conference. Examples:. How long should my child be spending on his/her homework?. What is my child like during the day? . Does my child participate in classroom discussions and activities?. Ask questions relating to grades, behavior, assignments or homework. 4. Bring a translator if necessary. If you do not have one, contact the school in advance and ask if they can arrange to have a translator available.
DURING THE CONFERENCERemember your time is limited.
1. Ask your most important questions first and allow time for responses.2. Ask for an explanation of anything you do not understand.3. Ask for specific suggestions on ways to help your child.4. Avoid lengthy discussions not related to the purpose of the conference..5. Take notes about what has been discussed to share with your child.6. 1. Discuss the conference with your child.2. Plan on how you, your child, and the teacher will work together.3. Be consistent and follow through.4. Let the teacher know how the suggestions are working.5. Praise your child's efforts to improve.
