Hillcrest is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school that proudly offers its students a world-class education with a dynamic faculty and challenging curriculum. Our students get the benefits and warmth of a small school setting with our eight Small Learning Communities all within a large comprehensive high school that offers Advanced Placement classes and one of the largest College Now programs in New York City. Every student enters one of our SLCs which is run by one teacher-leader, one school counselor, and a dozen teachers who use rigorous instruction and data-tracking analysis to ensure credit accumulation and graduation success. Each SLC is linked to career themes and has connections to the professional world with various partnerships and internships to elite organizations from around New York City. Hillcrest offers its students several award-winning programs such as Virtual Enterprise, Model United Nations, Moot Court, Junior Achievement, HOSA, Journalism, and Theatre.
ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES:Program Highlights: Each Small Learning Community offers individualized educational programs: Pre-Medical SLC provides STEM classes built on science research, exploration and internships;Medlab and Microbiology; Honors Humanities SLC allows students to explore their media and writing, artistic, and musical talents in a variety of performance and publishing mediums; Biz-tek SLC provides CTE certification in Virtual Enterprise as well as CADD/CAM Engineering and Computer Science studies; Public Service SLC includes a four-year Law sequence with Constitutional Studies, Forensics, and Criminal Justice; Health Sciences SLC offers CTE certified Nursing Assistants Program as well as Sports Medicine; Teachers of Tomorrow SLC provides teaching training and places selected students in local schools through its TAS/PERC program; Theatre SLC offers thespians unique skills such as stagecraft, film making, and play writing all while providing the opportunity to perform in numerous productions. CUNY College Now Program allows students to earn college credits in: English 101 and 102; Computer Applications, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Speech Communication, Cultural Diversity, Nutrition, Health Profession,Science and Technology among others.
