CTE (Career & Technical Education)

The employment component of QSCD is known as the work-study experience.  When an Alternate Assessment student becomes 18 years of age, he or she becomes eligible to participate in work-study experiences at community worksites.  Students and staff are self-insured for liability by the Department of Education.
As of September 2007, approximately 100 students are working along side full and part-time employees at sites throughout Queens.  These worksites include restaurants, nursing homes, day care centers, senior centers, public schools, supermarkets, hospitals, and hotels.  Specific sites include Parker Rehabilitation Center, Concerned Parents of Jamaica, Walgreens, Hilton Inn & Garden, M. Tietz Nursing Home, PS 201, Laurelton Academy, and Good Foundations.
Students in this program gain the experience they need to enter the world of work once completing high school.
