1-101 with Ms. Gold

Welcome to First Grade!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to First Grade, Class 101!

I would like to take this time to introduce myself and tell you a little about our class.  My name is Mrs. Gold and I am looking forward to a very exciting school year.  Your children will be learning while exploring their world.  Our hands on approach helps children grow academically as well as socially.  By working in groups as well as independently the children will learn to think for themselves and problem solve with the help of their friends.

Please take a few minutes to review the following important information.

First grade starts at 8:03 every day.  Please have your children in the lunchroom at 8:00.

We start working the first day so it is important that your child have their supplies.  Please check throughout the year that all supplies are refilled.  Crayons are lost and glue gets used frequently.  There is also a pencil bandit that comes back every year and mysteriously snatches pencils…….please be sure your child has 3 sharpened pencils daily.  You can mark the pencils with initials or nail polish so they are more identifiable.  The best purchase you can make is a plastic pencil box (not a soft pencil case).  All supplies are placed in this box and it helps to organize the children.

Dismissal is at 2:45pm sharp in the school yard.  Please be on time…especially on rainy days.  We do not want your child standing out in the rain waiting to be picked up.

I am happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in school.  Please let me know a week in advance so I can plan for the special day.

Lunch is early in the day.  We will have snack time scheduled every afternoon about 2pm.  Please send a healthy snack every day with your child……fruit, veggies, sandwich cheese and crackers…..if you send it they will eat it.  Soda and candy are not allowed.

I can be reached daily during school hours through the school office, (718)528-2238. If email works better for you, gjordangold@schools.nyc.gov.

There will be times during the school year that I will be collecting money.  All money should be sent to school in a sealed labeled envelope.  It is important that you send the exact amount…it is difficult to make change.

Please prepare a supply box for home to complete homework assignments.  This box should include pencils, glue, scissors and crayons.

I will be checking homework every night.  If you need to send a note this is the perfect place to do so.  I will be sending notes home through the homework book as well.  Please check the folder and notebook every night.  After reviewing the homework assignment please sign.  If your child is having trouble with a specific assignment do not complete it for them.  Send me a note so I know to review the next day.  If you see an area that needs improvement I will be more than happy to offer suggestions for you to review at home as well.  Learning does not stop at the end of the school day.  We are a team, working together for the same goal…….the success of your child.

I am looking forward to a wonderful school year filled with learning, excitement, sharing and love.

                                                                  Thank You,

                                                                    Mrs. Gold
