Welcome to Kindergarten!
Dear Parents/Guardians
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at PS52Q. I am very excited to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an enriching and rewarding school year. My objectives this year are to prepare your child for first grade emotionally, socially, and academically in a positive and nurturing environment. Already we are off to a great start. So many of you have made the commitment to provide the supplies your child needs. Thank you and please continue to stay in tune with what your child learns this year.
These are some of the important areas we will focus on throughout the year.
· Writing and recognition of capital and lower case letters
· Writing for a purpose
· Shape, color, and number recognition
· Spelling and writing names
· Phonics
· Patterns and sequencing
· Problem solving
· Development of fine motor skills
· Science and Social Studies
I will conduct Kindergarten assessments at the start of the year this fall and in the spring so that both you and I can keep track of your child’s progress. This will also give you a chance to see what skills your child could benefit from working on at home as well as in school.
I am looking forward to working with your child and am excited to be a part of their growth and development. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year. The best times to speak with me are during drop off (before 8:30), or by phone between 8:10 and 8:30
Let’s work together to make this year full of fun, learning, and personal growth for your child!
Sincerely,
Lois C. Harris, Ed.D.
