Welcome to Third Grade!
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child to the third grade. We look forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the course of the year. Working together as a team with you makes a positive school experience for your child. It will be an exciting and meaningful year for all!
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Most first grade learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends everyday except in cases of illness or emergency. Also, for excused absences, your child will need to have a doctor’s note upon returning to school.
Please be aware that your child will have homework every night and your signature is required on all the homework. The homework is based on the work completed in class. Checking homework allows you to see what your child is learning. It also allows me to see how well your child understands the material or where he/she is experiencing difficulty. Please allow your child to complete the homework to the best of their ability. Homework assignments will be placed in your child’s homework notebook weekly.
Throughout the school year, there will be a variety of special classroom activities and celebrations. We encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them by contributing needed supplies or treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.
Being prepared is an essential part of education. Please send your child with the proper supplies each day. Attached, you will find a list of supplies your child will need for the school year. To ensure that your child is prepared each day, some supplies will be left in school.
We look forward to meeting with you over the next few weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, we invite to contact us at (718)528-2238.
