Scanning Machine
Scanning

Scanning takes place at entry into the student cafeteria (Exit 6/7) on the corner of Francis Lewis and 116th Avenue.

Students swipe their school issued photo identification card through a machine and proceeds to a scanning station—one for male students, one for female students.

Students place on the conveyor belt of the scanning machine their personal possessions (i.e.):

  1. book bags
  2. coats
  3. belts having large metal buckles
  4. any other carry bag
  5. and contents of their pockets that are placed in a school-provided plastic container

Every student walks through an airport-style scanner.  If an alarm does not sound and if the security agent does not detect a weapon or electronic device in the student’s personal belongings, the student proceeds into the main area of the students cafeteria to wait for the bell to go to their class.

Backpacks and Bags

If an alarm goes off and/or the security agent detects a weapon or electronic device as a result of scanning the student’s personal belongings, the student proceeds to a different scanning station, one for male students and one for female students to identify the object that set the alarm off.    The student is scanned by a School Safety Agent with a hand-held wand to identify the object that set the alarm off.  After the object is identified and removed from the student’s possession, the student and his/her belongings are sent back to begin the scanning process again.

You will be scanned every time you enter the building at all times of the day.  If you cannot enter Exit 6/7, you must enter the building through the main entrance.  You will be scanned there also.

REMEMBER TO CARRY YOUR ID AT ALL TIMES.  REMEMBER THAT NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE ALLOWED IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING PER CHANCELLOR’S REGULATION

Hall Pass Policy

NO PASSES are given out during the first and last ten minutes of the period.  Only one student may be out on a pass at a time.  Students should sign in and out each time they use the pass in the teacher’s logbook.
