I have had personal experiences with SUNY, (State University system of New York), CUNY,  (City University system of New York), and a private Ivy League institution.  I am the College Advisor for Petrides and also currently teaching sophomore English.  The best way to reach me is by Email but you may also call the school and use extension 136.  Information regarding college will be listed in the PTA Newsletter and handed out to juniors and seniors in school, usually during their English classes.

Listed below are the important dates for college exams:

Juniors – college entrance exam schedules:

• Some colleges require SAT Subject Tests.  Check the websites of the colleges that interest you.  Go to www.collegeboard.com for exam schedules.
• Check the ACT website also: www.actstudent.org
• When registering for SATs and ACTs use the CEEB (college entrance examination board) code for Petrides: 335-351
• See Mrs. Dennison if you feel that you are eligible for a fee waiver.

Juniors will receive a 52 page College Guide within the next couple of weeks.  Starting this month, juniors will be called to the College Office for individual sessions on college planning with Mrs. Dennison.

During their English periods on Monday, February 23, Juniors will be visited by a representative from Berkeley College who will discuss Interviewing Techniques.

Our Annual College Fair will be held on Tuesday evening, March 31 in the C building at 7:00 PM.  Save the date!

Seniors

• If you are applying online to CUNY, SUNY, or any private colleges, there is usually a document request form that you must give to Mrs. Dennison to send out with your transcript.
• Many colleges require a mid-quarter transcript to be sent out this month.  If you have not already done so, go to the College Office to address envelopes so that we can send out your transcripts.  If you applied on the Common Application, this is a necessity.
• You will be receiving a Scholarship Newsletter from the College Office soon.  Also, check out www.fastweb.com for scholarships.
• File your FAFSA now!  If your family does not yet have all of its tax reporting information, use your numbers from 2007 and estimate.  Then, as the 2008 information gets mailed to your home, go back into FAFSA and correct your information.  Go to: www.fafsa.ed.gov .
