Happy Autumn! We are moving into that very busy time of year – both at home, in preparing for the Holiday Season, and in school. As you know, the first report card will be distributed on November 16th, the day before parent-teacher conferences. We hope that you visit with your child’s teachers and come away from those meetings with some concrete ideas on how to work together to help your child improve.  You are welcome to stop by and talk with me, but your time on this day is better spent with the teachers since you can make an appointment to meet with me on almost any day.

     High school parents:

Please note that credit towards meeting graduation requirements is awarded from the grade earned on the NEXT (January) report card and that marking period started on November 2nd.  Classroom attendance plays an extremely important role in that grade determination. If you are not sure if your senior is on track to graduate or if s/he failed any class on this report card, please call me to discuss your concerns

Sophomores should be checking their grade point average (GPA) to see how close they are to eligibility into the National Honor Society. They need to know and understand the requirements for admission so they can begin to work towards that goal.

I recently taught a guidance lesson in every freshmen English class and asked the students to remember the following to help them achieve success in high school:

H- do Homework  & assignments on time. Get them if you are not in class

A- Attendance. Missed work = poor grades

B- Behavior. Get mediation, work things out. No cutting, fighting, bullying.

I- Involvement. Make this a 2nd home. (SING, sports, clubs, student gov’t, etc.)

T- Tutoring. Get it if you need it, especially before a test. Ask for help.

EIGHTH GRADE PARENTSPLEASE COMPLETE, SIGN AND RETURN THE HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS NOW.

I must have an application back from every child, even if your child will be going to a non-public school and especially if you want him/her to stay at Petrides. If you are thinking of moving, you should still file an application. Your child will lose the opportunity of choice if your plans change. Any questions – just call me. Most students from Petrides who wish to take the SHSAT have been scheduled for November 8th at 7:30 AM.

Please send in the Applicant Record form to me asap if your child is applying to any Catholic high school.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. May you be together with your families and the special people in your lives. I am mindful that I am thankful to be at Petrides and to have the opportunity to work with your children.

            Dates:

11/5 – Petrides HS Open House

11/7 or 11/8 – SHSAT given at SI Tech. Tickets given to students 11/2

11/9 – TACHS. Give Applicant Record to Ms. Mazes

11/25 – ALL public school HS applications due to Ms. Mazes

Please feel free to call me with questions/concerns. My extension is 130. I do not answer if I am with students or parents, but leave a detailed message so I know how to help. I will return your call.

                Here’s to a terrific year!!
