Welcome to the Michael J. Petrides School Media Center!
The library has been very busy since the Grand Opening in March, 2008.
Students in grades K-2 have been visiting the library with their classes on a monthly basis to enhance the lessons they have been working on in class. Their favorite part of library visits has been browsing the shelves and choosing books to bring home. Students in grades K-2 have been doing a wonderful job remembering to return the books they have borrowed and enjoyed with their families.
Grades 3-5 are very busy working on their Social Studies Research Projects. Research papers are in the process of being written and soon groups of students will be working on developing fun and creative presentations to go along with their research.
Sixth grade students have been using the library to find information about their heritage and the countries their families originated from. They used a variety of resources to find out about their country including the Internet, encyclopedias, and books. Students found out about the government, climate, and population of that country as well as a map and picture of the flag and of course, they found out about the food.
The library is open to Middle school students during their lunch period every Friday and to High school students during their lunch period on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students may use the library during open hours with a pass from their teacher. The library schedule for the current month is posted on the bulletin board outside of the library and a detailed weekly schedule is posted on the wall to your left as you enter the library.
You can visit the Petrides Library website at http://library.nycenet.edu/common/welcome.jsp?site=3939. From the homepage you can browse the library's catalog, link to some fun and educational websites, or access online research databases. In the near future, students will have the ability to place holds on books they would like to borrow as well as renew books they already have.
