Principal's Monthly Message

Ms. Joanne Buckheit, Principal

Dear Parents,

The end of October marks the end of the first marking period.  It’s hard to believe that the first quarter of the school year is behind us!  Report cards will be distributed to students in grades 1 through 12 on Monday, November 16th.  Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, November 17th, in the afternoon between 12:20 and 2:20 pm and in the evening between 6:00 and 8:30 pm.  All students will be dismissed at 11:20 am on November 17th

Our Extended Day sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:20 to 3:10 pm) will begin on Thursday, November 5th.  Targeted Skills Instruction will be provided for identified students in grades 1 through 8, invitation letters have been sent home to those students.  Yellow bus service will be provided; specific bus information has been included in the invitation letter.  High School students are invited to attend our Extended Day sessions for subject specific tutoring and or homework help as needed.  Please encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity!

We have been collaborating with the PTA to improve communication between school and home.  We are working hard to ensure valuable information is available for parents and student on our school’s portal at www.schools.nyc.gov  and on the PTA website: PetridesPTA.com.  If you do not receive our weekly informational eblast, please get your email address to Ellen Lanzi, Parent Coordinator.  Individual parent/student log-on information for our Edline site will be distributed school-wide, the week of November 9th

 October Fun . . .

Our football parents organized the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest fundraising event in early October.  The occasion proved fun for all who attended and profitable for the team, too!

Our Elementary School students enjoyed a day of fun at our annual Halloween Bash.  My thanks to the parent volunteers who made it all possible.  The Haunted House was such a scary success – it made an encore appearance for our Middle School Halloween dance!

 Sincerely,

Joanne Buckheit
