One-to-One Advising – The College & Career Counselor is available for conferences about college and career planning. Every student is urged to make an appointment either in the spring of the junior year or fall of the senior year. Appointments are on a first come, first served, limited basis.
College Presentations – During the spring term the College Counselor holds a Junior Jump Start evening presentation for junior parents and students to discuss the college application process and to answer any questions students may have. During the fall term, a senior parent and student college presentation is held.
College Visits – An evening college fair is held every spring. All students are encouraged to attend. Additionally, approximately 30 to 40 colleges visit our high school to discuss college programs. The most up-to-date list of visits is posted outside of the College Office, and announcements are made daily. Students who are interested in attending one of these sessions obtain a pass in the College Office during their free period.
College Newsletter – Every month, the latest edition of the college newsletter is distributed to seniors during English class and posted on the website. Junior newsletters are distributed quarterly and posted on the website. All college bound juniors and seniors are responsible for reading each newsletter! SAT registration deadlines, college application deadlines, scholarships, college events, and other vital information is included.
College Catalogue Files – An extensive collection of catalogues, reference books, and financial aid materials is available for your use. If you do not find what you are looking for, or do not know what to look for, please ask the College and Career Staff.

College Entrance Exams – Materials for the SAT I, SAT II – subject tests, ACT (American College Testing), and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) are available in the College Office. Fee waivers are available if you qualify based on income. To receive a fee waiver, you must be eligible for free or reduced lunch whether you eat lunch or not. Fill out a lunch form at the beginning of the year which can be obtained at the SO store.
Scholarship Information – The College Office has information about the types of scholarships available, how to apply, criteria, etc. Scholarships are publicized each month in the College Newsletter.
