PARENT AS PARTNER EVENT #1!!
Dear Parents and Raider Family Members,
The role of the parent in the education of a high school student is one of utmost importance. Our theme this school year in working with our parents is to recognize your important role as our Partner in the education of your child. We call these events “Parent as Partner” events! Indeed the words “partner” and “parent” share the exact same letters!
On Wednesday evening September 17th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. we will host our first Family Night Activity here at school. Our parents, students and family members will have the opportunity to meet with all your child’s teachers to learn about the exciting adventures that await your child this year in school. You will have the opportunity to learn about the curriculum that your child will study this year and most importantly interact with teachers and other school staff.
In order to organize the evening in a manner that provides access to all of our teachers, we will ask parents to follow your child’s schedule from period 1 to period 8. Each period will last 10 minutes and will give parents and teachers an opportunity to meet each other and exchange information. While our teachers will be available to parents from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., we will follow our daily schedule of classes beginning with period 1 at 5:25 p.m. I recognize that some parents may not be able to report to school at 5:25 p.m., but there will also be time from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for parents to meet teachers they may have missed earlier. Training sessions for parents on our school online grade-book (PupilPath) will also be held beginning at 4:45 p.m., and again at 7:30 p.m. for any parents who may be new to PupilPath.
I encourage parents and family members to make your own “business cards” using hand written index cards or a computer. The cards should contain your child’s name as well as your contact information such as cell phone numbers and email addresses. Provide each of your child’s teachers with a card that they can easily keep in the event that they wish to contact you. I also encourage you to drop a card with Parent Coordinator Elaine DiAngelo who will make sure we have all of your emergency contact information on file.
On the back of this letter are the specific times for the teacher sessions for September 17th. I am excited about this new opportunity for our parents and teachers to get to know one another. Our counselors, Deans and other support staff will also be available to greet parents as well. I look forward to seeing you
Yours in Raider Spirit,
