PS 274 has established a partnership with several non-profit organizations.
Behind the Book is a foundation whose mission is to nurture a love of reading and writing. Our students participate in author/illustrator residency projects such as book writing and journalism. Below you will find further details regarding the Behind the Book Program.
Class 5-2 will be participating in the Spring Behind the Book Program at PS 274. To launch the program, Class 5-2 will be visiting the Random House Publishing building on April 3, 2008. This field trip will allow the students to experience the writing process in a real-world setting. Later, in May, we will be having Jill Santolopo, a mystery author, come to our class to teach the students how to write mysteries! Jill Santolopo will be sharing her new mystery with the students before it is available in stores! In addition, famed illustrator Colin Bootman will be joining the class of 5-2 and teaching them how to illustrate their mysteries.

Class E01 made the Behind the Book project in December. The author who came for a visit was Stephanie Calmenzon. Mr. Thomas Yezerkie, an illustrator also came to give the children some tips on how to illustrate/make sketches that match their stories. The students have finished their books and they are ready for publication. Their focus was on their favorite pet.
