Our Community

I.S. 347 provides academic instruction for students in grades 6-8.  The school has three distinct learning communities which are divided into the 6^th grade, 7^th grade and 8^th grade academies.  These academies foster smaller learning communities that promote academic success.  In addition to the core subject areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science, we offer a variety of talent classes such as Art, Technology, Foreign Language and Physical Education.  We also provide students with various programs in collaboration with outside facilitators in the arts and science subject areas.  This includes dance, drama, hand on science and art.  We also offer the students a comprehensive advisory program to teach students appropriate social skills.  We provide students with a positive behavior program (P.B.I.S.) school wide.  Our special education and ELL departments provide students’ instruction using research based strategies to foster instruction on grade level.  Our students are offered a rich academic program which incorporates organizational and study skills to prepare them for entry into high school.
