November 2008

Last month, this was a question that was asked to our students during their monthly assembly. With a focus on commemorating the end of Hispanic Heritage month, our students were given the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices their ancestors made, the struggles they endured, and injustices made against them.

That was a very long time ago, and so much has changed since then. These days, by comparison, high school students have much to be thankful for…given all kinds of opportunities that were denied to their grandparents and great grandparents. BCHS alumni added to the showcase, sending insightful messages through their music with themes that emphasized the importance of education, the power of knowledge, and the spiritual freedom that comes with where knowing where you came from.

With the stress of our country’s economic recession, the concern of working families losing their homes, poor healthcare, overcrowded prisons with our nation’s young black and latino men, a lack of our country’s natural resources, a continued war overseas, now is the time to be THANKFUL FOR THE RIGHT TO VOTE!

This month honor your ancestors and family members past, and be thankful for them making it a reality for you and your children to have your voices heard.

Are YOU thankful?
