The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) works to build gender equity through policy, practice, and partnerships with community-based organizations. The NYCDOE’s Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Student Guidelines provide resources for parents, students and educators on supporting transgender individuals. The Respect for All program lists NYCDOE policies that further define and prohibit bullying and sexual harassment in our school communities. Our policy is to offer a safe and supportive school environment for all students free from harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying and free from discrimination on account of actual or perceived race, color, creed, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship/immigration status, religion, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, or weight. This webpage lists programs whose work is geared toward girls and young women in New York City. If you know of additional programs or if you have questions about gender equity in schools, contact Gender Equity Coordinator Kimberly Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
