"I Am... Poem," Pauliana Marcelin, Eighth Grade, Tri-Community JHS 231Q

I am happy and smart.
I am curious about my big brother in Haiti
I hear the music of my country
I see myself as a nurse
I want a beautiful, big house
And two cars
I am happy and smart.

I pretend that I have finished high school and college
I feel full of love
I touch my baby
I worry about my husband leaving me
I am happy and smart.

I understand French and Creole
I say I will have a wonderful life
I dream of my family in the future
I try to learn English
I hope my dreams come true
I am happy and smart.
