Barbara DePesa, Math Teacher, Herbert H. Lehman High School

I would like to take this time to thank my previous math teacher, Barbara De Pesa. Although, she is the AP of the Math department she works with the students to ensure their success. Ms. DePesa was my second math teacher in Lehman High School and over the past four years I spent at Lehman she always helped me in every way she could. Ms. DePesa has given me advice and has always encouraged me to reach my full potential. She has created a second home for me and many other students in room 314 and welcomes all to her office. Till this day I still go to visit the Math Department (rm.314) and am welcomed. If it were not for her the congenial environment she has made for the students, I would rarely visit Lehman. She wants the students to learn and be as enthusiastic for math as she is. She is concerned when a student does not comprehend a topic and always encourages them to attend tutoring. I remember when I was struggling to complete my work she was very concerned and told me if I worked harder I would have less difficulty with the work. After I invested more time in my work I realized that I needed someone to push me. She has always looked for opportunities for the students. In my senior year of high school she was able to get me an after school job in the high school and some tutoring jobs. Ms. DePesa is one of the most inspiring teachers that I have met and is a great example of what a good teacher is. Thank you, Ms. DePesa for always being there for me.
