Tamara Elua, English Teacher, Russell Sage Junior High School

Ms. Elua is one of my favorite teachers at Russell Sage Junior High School. She teaches 7th and 8th graders. She makes learning pleasurable. She's passionate about what she teaches and it really shows. Her lessons are really exciting because she always makes an interesting connection between her lesson and experiences in real life. Ever since 6th grade, I've hated English class. For me, English is a really complicated subject, and I think it's my weakest, but somehow, Ms. Elua has made me love it and look forward to it each day.

I also think highly of how cheerful she is all the time. I know that no one can be cheerful every single day but she always puts on a reassuring smile that makes you feel serene. I've never seen her really aggravated and even when she says she's angry, she doesn't go crazy like some other teachers. So even though English class is really tough for me, I'm enjoying it and I feel that by the end of the school year, my writing skills will have improved a whole lot. I am thankful to have her in my life because something about her makes me feel like I can connect to her. I think she is a genuinely nice person who is honest and understanding.
