Ruth Fine, Hebrew Teacher, Francis Lewis High School

As a freshman, I was overjoyed to know that my school offered Hebrew as a language choice. Unfortunately, I was placed into the advanced level without knowing any words in the language, and the class could not be changed unless I wanted my entire schedule to be changed.

Luckily, my teacher, Mrs. Ruth Fine, was more than capable to teach me Hebrew, so I decided to stick it out in Advanced Hebrew. Little did I know that after having her for three years, I would be extremely competent in a language that I knew no words in previously. Now in my fourth year with Mrs. Fine, I am able to look back and see the true mark of a wonderful teacher. Many students don’t respect Mrs. Fine because they feel Hebrew is a waste of a class, but I have cherished every moment in Mrs. Fine’s class.

Taking Hebrew with Mrs. Fine has taught me that if a student tries hard and has the right teacher, they can accomplish anything. Not many teachers can say that in three years, they taught a language to a student well-enough to make them practically speak the language fluently. Mrs. Fine is one teacher that can.
