The teacher I am most thankful for is my hearing therapist, Ms. Gable. When I was at P.S. 29, I was very scared and nervous because I didn’t hear well. She was a tremendous help to me. I always felt different from my classmates who heard well. Ms. Gable made me feel special and smart. She told me that her parents were deaf, but did very well in life. Ms. Gable taught me the beginnings of sign language, and said that maybe someday, I could teach children with hearing difficulties. I gained a lot of self-esteem and confidence from Ms. Gable’s kindness to me. Ms. Gable read directions to me when I took standardized tests, and wanted me to do well. She came to see me perform in Monsignor Farrell’s musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," in 2004. Ms. Gable told me she was so proud of me, and that I did great. She is a very kind, caring, and special teacher. I was very fortunate to have her as part of my life those two years at P.S. 29.
