Students

Gerald Jacobs, U.S. History Teacher, Academy of American Studies

There is no limit on the amount of words to describe Mr. Jacobs.  He would start the class off by looking through his pile of joke books on his desk.  In between segments of history, he would flip through them and pick out probably the corniest jokes ever.  His presence in the classroom was just amazing- his students wanted to be there because of him.  They wanted to hear him speak, to hear him share his knowledge, and of course, they wanted to hear his jokes as well.  His experiences in life and the guidance he shared with us gave us all something to look forward to.  The classroom environment was so comfortable because he made every one of us feel equal to each other.  We all strived to do our best because of his faith and support in us.  Mr. Jacobs gave his students words of wisdom every day, even when we did not realize it.  He taught us something new every moment even if it had nothing to do with U.S. history.  I was fortunate enough to have him as a teacher for two years in my high school career, and both times, he never ceased to astonish me.  He will always remain an inspiration in my life.
