James DiBenedetto, Chorus Teacher, Brooklyn Technical High School

James DiBenedetto from Brooklyn Technical High School single-handedly saved my life! At the same time, he opened my eyes and vocal chords to classical music. At the request of the dean, I mean football coach, I mean chorus director, Mr. DiBenedetto, "Coach D", I reported to the auditorium for chorus rehearsal.  It was there that I, along with one of my lifetime friends, Rachael Hollingsworth, learned how to sing Vivaldi's, "Laudamus te".  I thank him for his patience, understanding and the love that he showed to us.  Because of him, Rachael and I were selected to become members of the All-City High School Chorus, where we were exposed to the genius of John Motley, who challenged us both to become better singers. Today, Rachael is a world-renowned TV/screen actress and singer.  Because of this musical foundation, I was able to sing throughout the U.S. and in South Africa, Italy, Germany and Slovenia. I am also privileged to be a member of Cohort 7 with New Leaders for New Schools, where I am in training to become a principal.  It is my hope that I will inspire my students to live beyond their imagination and bring to life the talent that lies within! Thank you Coach D!
