I would like to thank Ms. Eileen Lavin, Special Education Kindergarten teacher at P.S. 111X. Ms. Lavin has been a gift from God to my son and the other hearing impaired children in her class. My 4-year-old entered her class in September after spending much of his young life battling cancer. He is now hearing impaired and speech delayed. Ms. Lavin greats him every morning with a smile and a hug. My child is eager to go to school everyday because of her. When he started in September he didn't know his ABC's, his numbers or even his name. Now everyday he comes home eager to show me the new letter(s) Ms. Lavin has taught him. She has opened up the world of learning to him. When we walk down the street he now happily points out letters and numbers everywhere. It is as if Ms. Lavin turned on a light somewhere in him. Words cannot express the gratitude that I feel for Ms. Lavin. Every parent who has gone through what I have with my son should be fortunate enough to have a Ms. Lavin as their child's first teacher. She has made the transition to kindergarten a very smooth one for me. May God always bless her.
