Royden Lobel, World History Teacher, Francis Lewis High School

It is not very often that a man with the wisdom and talent that Mr. Royden Lobel has decides to become a teacher in a New York City public school. This makes him even more admirable.

Mr. Lobel was my teacher for AP World History, and since then, his influence on me has been profound. I thought AP World History would be boring but I soon realized that taking the class was the best decision I’ve ever made. Mr. Lobel made class fun through his humor and by putting us into the historical situations. To this day, I cite his “Lobelisms” in class, which deal with many historical trends using humor.

Besides being an incredible teacher, Mr. Royden Lobel is also a role model. He inspired me to become a teacher, and I hope that I can be half the teacher and man that he is. I have not been able to stump Mr. Lobel; many teachers don’t even know the material, but Mr. Lobel knows anything and everything and he’s always there to help with school and life. Without having Mr. Lobel as a teacher, my life and goals for the future would be nothing like they are today.
