Students

Donna Scavone, Teacher, New Dorp High School

I am extremely appreciative of having you as a teacher this year. You are not only a teacher to all of your students. Many consider you as mentor, instructor, educator, and friend. I cannot remember the last time I had a teacher who inspired me to do so well in school. You teach us how to stay in line and not mess up. Failing to you is not an option and will do everything in your power to make sure your students are working at their full potential to move on out of high school and make it into a good college.

Even though you never have to remind me of doing these things I still find it inspiring that you care so much about the other students. You are the teacher anyone can come to with a problem or issue they need to discuss and or laugh about. Students of yours for the most part would look to you for advice before any other teacher. You understand where we are coming from and if you don’t you make it seem like you do so the students will feel better about their issues.

It is really cool that you know when there is a time for work and a time for relaxing and treating us to no work on some days after a hard week of working in your class. I think many students look up to you because you had a scholarship to a good college, landed a teaching career, started a family and yet still made time to make sure every student is doing what they are supposed to be doing, not only in your own class but all their classes. It shows you have ambitions of seeing your students do well and that you did not fail as a teacher, friend, or mentor. More teachers should be like you this way more and more students stay on track and complete what they are expected of.
